AWW Walk Report 27 November 2019

AWW Walk Report 27 November 2019

It was with some trepidation that the AWW met this week.  No it wasn’t the thought of the “very steep hills up and down” to come but whether Senhora Odilia and/or  Senhora Florival would a) have the coffee machine on and more importantly b) be still in their dressing gowns.  Well, groundless fears, as they were both dressed and ready to serve our coffee.

Walkers: Sue H, Martin, Alan, Jan, Bob, Julie, Ros, Linda, Sarah, Russ, Ken (with Bica), John, Terry, Sue M, Geoff, Maggie, Isabel and Tony.

The first few kms were on the flat, past some onlookers whose bark and meow were worse than their bites. Then we paused before the first of the hills.  The more observant of you might notice someone having a comfort break in the background!

Of course if you go up you have to go down and there were plenty of those too.

Lunch was very welcome after all the hills and we also found some medronhas along the way to give us energy.

3 brave souls made it to the trig point.

And then there was a final big push to the windmill.

And then Miriam consulted the maps (David style!) and announced she didn’t know the way down that she had recced.  Anyway we found a great path which added a bit to the walk but it was fairly easy and enabled a flat walk back to the café.  Ros was heard to say “ are we nearly there yet”!

And so back to the café for a well earned drink.

Walk stats:

Distance: 19.66 km
Duration: 4 hours 30 minutes excluding stops
Average speed 4.4 km
Elevation gain: 657 m
Elevation loss: 654m
