Guadiana Day 4
After reading about our first three days walking GR15 along the Guadiana, you might be mildly surprised to see this ( rather late) last installment.
We do need to record however that the storm during the night was terrific : thunder/lightning/flooded carpet by open window...the works. It had subdued by breakfast time , just a steady drizzle, but not enough to stop the hiotel's lawn sprinklers from being turned off!
After 3 days of walking, we were not a little relieved that the majority at breakfast thought we should call it a day : even if the deluge desisted, the track would be muddy, slippery, full of puddles, though David had prepared a plan B with s horter route.
So, what to do? Well Sue had done an ode, see below, and Ann , at last, had a chance to get us to play " Left, Right, Centre". For those, like us, to whom this was new, see : How to Play LCR: Dice Game Rules & Variations to Try
We soon cottoned on, but I think it's best played after a few beers at night, not coffees at breakfast. Anyway, novice ( so he says! ) David cleaned up, 18€ , which he magnamimously donated to the local dog charity.
And so we wended our way , wondering whether perhaps we should have walked after all.....but newcomers Caroline & Karen dithered a little, left later, and were deluged again.
Right decision made....back next year!

Sue's ode to Guadiana AWW Awaydays
We walked from Vila Real de San Antonio
Knowing we had some way to go.
We walked in the sun past more than one boat
Which on the water they did float.
We walked past some upcycled figures
Of those of humans we had a snigger.
Taxis took us back to Vila Real
Where we went to the Square for a light me-al !!
From here we drove to Alcoutim.
I’m unsure if the hotel had a gym.
We walked some way for dinner,
Trying to get a little bit thinner!
We walked from Junqueira on the next day
To walk some more of the Guardiana Way.
In a village we had a coffee break
Some of us also had some cake.
For lunch David found a lovely spot
By the river, a shelter, table, chairs………………. the lot!
We carried on walking to Odeleite
In the sun which was a real delight!
On Day Three there was a fuss
‘Cos the wipers weren’t working on the mini bus.
The car went several times to Odeleite
Where some had a meia de leitte.
Those of us who arrived first
Who had a coffee to quench their thirst,
Saw 200 Swedish walkers go
past
Some very slow and some very fast.
The day was grey with a shower
Over which we had no power.
Laranjeiras was where we called it a day
Where we didn’t have sun, not even a ray!
In fact, at the café it started to rain
Which we found a real pain.
Still, we were at a pretty spot
By the river with boats and a yacht.
Whilst asleep that night, which is the norm,
We were woken by a great big storm.
There was rain, lightening and also thunder,
What next, we all did wonder!
It was decided not to walk on Day Four,
We’ll have to return to do some more.
Thanks David and Geoff for all you’ve done,
We can all agree we’ve had great fun.
Sue
Next year. Larangeiras to Mertola?
ReplyDeleteA pity about the weather, although you weren't the only ones affected. A good excuse to carry on next year. A pleasant little dirty. Well done all.
ReplyDeleteExcellent log, Geoff and Susan. Thank you both. If we hadn’t been there, the log would have been enough to make us feel as if we had been! Karen and Caroline
