Third Time lucky walk around Pombal - 7.5.25

The day dawned fair and we kept our fingers crossed that the rain would keep away.  We needn't have worried as the infamous five gathered at the Cafe in Pombal near Querenca.

Unfortunately Ros´s Dutch friend was lost so never made it to the start

Is this a first: selfie for the blog?

Off we set at a good pace, with Ken at the back making sure his tracking app was working!
It wasn't long before we headed across a field of flowers
and came across this pretty garden in need of some cleaning.

The flowers along the way were spectacular.  Irises, flags, strange looking cacti plus underfoot fields of wild flowers.

We then started the first of the many uphill's during the day.  Fortunately the temperature was pleasant with a gentle breeze so we all got to the top without too much trouble.  We admired the views from the top - or were we just getting our breath back?

We met a local group of walkers from Pombal who were also admiring the views and the flowers. Toby decided he'd rather stay with them but eventually caught us up. Walking along the ridge for a while we meandered up and down and forgot to take any photos! Where was Alan when you needed him  Added to which, after an hour, Ken headed back to the cafe .... with my phone I was using to take photos

One of the few Photos taken along the ridge plus another beautiful shrub which we couldn't identify.

We made our way down to Corcitos coming upon this beautifully decorated house.  I started to take a photo of it but was rudely shouted at by the owner. Managed to snap it though!

Bypassing the fonte at Corcitos, we headed off towards Fonte Benemola stopping to allow Toby and Bica a drink from the fountain.

I always forget how stony and uneven the path down to Fonte Benemola is.  Ros was taking it very easy with David.

And then finally it was time for lunch.  The now and then photos of the stepping stones tell the story of this week and the day I recced the walk back in March.

A welcome lunch

  5. Sorry to have missed your walk Miriam. Our visitors arrived on Tuesday night (as did I) so we couldn't really leave them. Unfortunately that's the end of our walks this season. Looking forward to seeing you all next September

  6. Looks a lovely spring day for a countryside walk. I think the Acanthus plant is an invasive species, but don't quote me.
